A Famous Entrance: The Front Doors You Might Recognise

They say that first impressions count and nowhere is that more true than at your home. People have a tendency to instantly make a judgement on your home before they even step through the front door and it’s funny we should mention the front door as its appearance can have a huge influence on their thoughts.

White Internal Door Panels with Contemporary Handle

Not only that, but in many cases a front door can become the primary focal point of a residence and achieve a life all of their own as the below ‘famous’ front doors demonstrate.

10 Downing Street

Prime Ministers may have come and gone over the years, but one thing that’s forever remained at No.10 Downing Street is that iconic front door, arguably the most ‘famous’ door in Britain, even the world. Did you know that it’s actually made of a highly bomb-proof metal and that whenever it needs any form of maintenance a replica is put in its place whilst the work is carried out?

The Rovers Return

If the green-painted doors at the nation’s favourite boozer could speak they’d be able to tell you a good few stories! A number of fires and fights between residents have seen them take a battering over the past 53 years, with the last blaze to hit completely guttering the place. But alas, the pub and its celebrated doors again rose from the ashes in May of last year.

The Tardis

Ok, although not strictly a conventional front door, the Tardis is the preferred method of transport for Doctor Who, has a set of doors and could perhaps be seen as his home? Inside it apparently contains a library, a swimming pool, a large boot room, and an enormous chamber jammed with clothes. Over the past 50 years, they’ve interestingly opened both inwardly and outwardly.

HMP Slade

Ever seen the opening titles to the 1970’s sitcom Porridge? ‘Norman Stanley Fletcher…’ Again, whilst they wouldn’t be classed as a front door, the gates at the front of HMP Slade were seen being closed shut at the start of all 20 episodes, the place where ‘Fletch’ and his roommate ‘Godber’ were detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure.

If your home is badly in need of a new front door then Permaframe has a fantastic selection of designs for you to choose from.
