Permaframe’s Guide To Save Energy

Lower energy usage

Now we have officially entered autumn, winter will be here before we know it. The vast majority of households will use more energy in winter and with the cost of energy at an all-time high, there’s never been a more crucial time to take action.

Liz Truss recently announced a plan to help with the extortionate cost of energy, capping the price of energy at £2,500 a year for a household that uses an average amount of energy.

There is no denying that your energy bills will be lower than they would have been without this announcement, with Which? estimating that the plan will save homeowners an average of £1000 per year. However, for many households, this does not go far enough.

The cost of energy has still risen significantly. Which? estimates that the new average unit rates (for direct debit customers) will be 34p per kWh for electricity with an average standing charge of 46p per day and 10.3p per kWh for gas with an average standing charge of 28p per day.

Many households are scrambling to reduce their energy costs, searching for a cheaper tariff and looking for ways to lower their energy usage. Eden has put together some advice on how to save energy.

Cut down your showering time

If you love taking long showers, you may want to reduce your showering time to decrease your energy usage.

Even 2 minutes less each time you shower can contribute to a decline in energy bills. To clean our skin, the recommended shower length is 5 to 10 minutes.

Dry your washing on a line outside

It’s no secret that tumble dryers use a large amount of energy and therefore we recommend you ditch them and use a washing line outside instead!

This can be more difficult in autumn and winter months when there’s typically more rain, however with 2022 looking like one of the driest years on record, we hope to see the trend continue into the cooler months.

Buy energy-efficient windows & doors

Did you know that your current windows and doors could be a big factor in your rising energy bills? Poorly insulated windows and doors are a cause of draughts in the home and they will allow warmth from your central heating to escape.

This will result in your heating system needing to work even harder to heat your home and your bills will skyrocket. Permaframe’s energy-efficient windows and doors will retain the heat inside your home, reducing your reliance on expensive energy.
