A+ Plus Windows

Within our range A+ Plus double glazed windows are among the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly available. These windows are even better at insulating your home than their predecessors – A rated windows. Thanks to the continued development and improvement to both our products and manufacturing processes A+ Plus windows will insulate your home more successfully than ever before. Using newly developed technologies which stop internal heat from escaping your home, as well as allowing natural heat from the sun to travel into your home, investing in these windows will reduce the need to artificially warm your home with expensive-to-run central heating systems.

A+ plus windows are the most energy efficient available...

    • Energy efficiency in the context of windows is usually scored by the Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme, a buyer friendly guide to understanding the level of thermal performance offered by various types of glazing. The scheme uses a familiar A – G ‘traffic light’ system that is seen on many different products, such as houses, cars and white goods.

Previously A-rated windows were seen as being among the most efficient available, and Building Regulations now specifies that replacement windows should be at least C-rated or above.

However, the recent development of A+ Plus windows has seen A rated windows drop down a place and they are no longer the most energy efficient available under the WER Scheme. And owing to our commitment to supplying on the best products available, we are pleased to be able to offer A+ Plus products to our customers.

    • The connection between a product and the phrase ‘energy efficiency’ varies according to the context of the specific item and its functions. In terms of replacement UPVC windows, energy efficiency is all about decreasing your dependence on energy consuming heating systems by limiting the amount of warmth that is allowed to escape from your property, on top of gaining benefits from the natural warmth given by the sun – a process known as ‘solar gain’.

Windows that boast the new A+ Plus rating will insulate your home in much the same way as cavity wall or loft insulation. However, the type of glass used for these windows not only stops internal heat from escaping, it also facilitates the transfer of external warmth into your home, and so the benefit is doubled.

This clever arrangement and specification of glass used, is complemented by the insulating qualities of other features of the window and the result is a naturally warmer room temperature.

    • It is no secret that heating bills are expensive and although there are many different choices of pre-pay, fixed and variable tariffs available, most people would understandably like to lessen their energy costs so that they have more disposable income for the things in life that matter.

Switching to A+ Plus energy efficient windows is a worthwhile investment and one that will be more than reimbursed during the lifetime of the product. Conservative calculations suggest that modern UPVC windows will be in working order for at least 20 years; some go as far to suggest that 35 years is more accurate, taking into account the inherent qualities of the materials and manufacturing processes used.

    • The number of families that are now realising the importance of reducing their household carbon footprint on the environment is growing by the day. It is for this reason that people make an effort to recycle, turn off lights that aren’t being used and car share wherever possible.

The importance of energy efficient windows in the fight against global warming can sometimes go overlooked, but the fact that windows often equate to about a quarter of a buildings surface area – sometimes more - means that having poorly performing windows can significantly impact how environmentally friendly a house is.

The use of boilers, electric radiators and coal fires, although pivotal to the warmth of your home, are regrettably not good for the environment and outdated, inefficient windows will let the heat generated by these sources escape from your property and go to waste.  Many of our customers comment that their home is indeed noticeably warmer once they have had A+ Plus windows fitted.

    • The double or triple glazed units within a window will have great impact on its overall performance level, however there are a number of other vital elements which are often not fully acknowledged.

Adding to the insulating capacities of the double glazed or triple glazed unit, A+ Plus Windows bring together a window frame with 5 insulating chambers, a sash frame that boasts 6 insulating chambers and a bubble gasket which is as significant as the seal on a fridge-freezer.

An assortment of innovative materials make up the sealed glass unit and these materials control the transfer of heat between the inside and outside of your home, with the sun’s natural heat being allowed to pass freely into your home whilst the heat already inside is prevented from escaping.

    • The outermost frame of a window is the part which is mounted to the walls of your house and provides a fixing for the opening sashes to be fitted in to. A window’s outer frames and sashes – often rectangular or square, but in some cases other shapes – are created from lengths of ‘profile’ which is designed to look good, perform excellently, and be easily installed into domestic properties.

Insulating cavities in the outer frame and sash improve the insulation naturally given by UPVC and the double or triple glazed unit is fixed in place using an internal glazing bead which offers security benefits. The outer frame profile has 5 insulating sections and the new and improved sash profile has 6 insulating chambers. Steel reinforcing can be inserted into these chambers for added strength if necessary.

    • There are 4 key components which make up a double glazed unit: these are the outer pane, a spacer bar, the inner pane and gas which fills the gap created by the two panes of glass and spacer bar. The outer pane is designed to let natural sun light and warmth into your home while the inner pane has a special coating applied which bounces heat back into the room as it tries to escape through the window.

The ‘warm edge’ spacer bar is made of a composite material that is less conductive than aluminium spacer bars which are still used to this day but lessen the energy efficiency of the window because aluminium does not inhibit the transfer of heat. The cavity between the two pieces of glass is filled with Argon, which being a dense gas, provides more resistance to heat loss than dry air.

Of course, triple glazing involves the use of three panes of glass – two of which are specially coated – in order to create two voids that are both filled with Argon.

    • We recognise that energy efficiency is one of many benefits that new windows must deliver. Another is of course first-class security in order to keep all of the members of your household and belongings safe and protected from potential intruders.  That is the reason why we use high specification locking mechanisms, hinges and handles that have been extensively tested, to name but a few security features.

A+ plus windows are available with both double glazing and triple glazing...

    • A+ Plus windows are offered with both double glazing and triple glazing, thought the latter actually qualifies as being an A++ (Plus-Plus) window thanks to the third pane.  Although it is triple glazing which provides the superior level of insulation, the location and weather conditions that your house is exposed to will often command the option which will be most fitting for you.

In many cases A+ Plus double glazed windows will be the most effective solution, delivering the best combination of energy efficiency and value for money. Our advisors pride themselves on recommending the most suitable solution for your property and lifestyle once they have listened to your individual reasons for replacing your windows and the desired appearance that you wish to accomplish.

    • Our A+ Plus 28mm double glazed windows have an index rating of A+10, which is the grade given to the product under the Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme that judges all the performance elements of the window including insulation and solar gain.

Another slightly different measure of a window’s performance is U-value which only takes into account the amount of heat lost through a window – the lower the U-value, the better the window is at acting as an insulator. Our double glazed A+10 windows have a U-value of 1.3 w/m²K – whereas old single glazed windows that typically have a U-value of 5.1 w/m²K and early examples of double glazing are often in the region of 2.8 w/m²K.

    • Our A+ Plus 36mm triple glazed windows have an index rating of A+21 which means that they are classified as an A++ (Plus-Plus) Window under the Window Energy Rating (WER) scheme.

Another measure of a window’s performance is U-value which is a metric that is solely concerned with the amount of heat lost through a window – the lower the U-value, the better the window will be at insulating your home. As a result of the third pane of glassed used and additional insulating cavity, our triple glazed A+21 windows have a U-value of 1.0 w/m²K. Triple glazed windows look almost identical in appearance to double glazed windows so there is no compromise on appearance.

    • Privacy glazing is almost always featured in bathrooms, whether that is on the ground floor, first floor or higher. This glazing obscures the view through the window without significantly reducing the amount of natural light that is allowed into the room from the outside. Privacy glazing is also often used in the sidelights of a front door too.

Privacy glazing can also be included into A+ Plus double glazed and triple glazed windows meaning that the benefits of both the privacy and energy efficiency are given at the same time. We have a range of obscured glass designs on offer which each create a different visual effect with textured patterns such as Stippolyte, Minster and Florielle.

Choose from a huge range of colour options...

    • One of the most popular colours that our A+ Plus UPVC windows are made in is white, due to its ability to work well with almost any décor, and the resilience of the UPVC surface finish. There are however many different colour options that you may wish to look at before upgrading your windows with A+ Plus energy efficient replacements and these include the classic wood-effect finishes Golden Oak, Cherrywood and Mahogany, or up-and-coming favourites such as Grey, Chartwell Green and Cream.

Within our colour range we are sure that you will find an option that complements existing features of your home and, if preferable, you can even opt to have a colour ‘on white’ which means that the inside face of your windows will be white – therefore matching all number of internal décor options - and the outside face will display the colour you have chosen.

    • Our smooth gloss white is the most popular option for replacement A+ Plus UPVC windows for a reason – it is neutral and considerate to the other features of your home, particularly low maintenance, and very hard-wearing.

UPVC is a naturally waterproof material and the smooth gloss finish adds to the weatherproof properties of these windows. Additionally these windows are extremely low maintenance and simply wiping them with warm, soapy water every now and again will keep them looking their best for many years to come.

    • If you are looking for your windows to become a more prominent feature of your home, we offer a range of colour finishes which can be applied to both sides of the window (external and internal) or just one.

Some of the most popular alternatives to white from our range include Cream, Grey, Chartwell Green and Black-Brown, all of which boast the same low-maintenance qualities as their white counterpart. On top of this we also offer dark Red, Blue and Green colour alternatives.

All of the above colours also feature a woodgrain texture which reproduces the appearance of painted wood to excellent effect. Another alternative is Whitegrain - white in colour but also featuring a woodgrain texture – which offers a more subtle option to our standard smooth gloss white finish.

    • To further emulate the appearance and appeal of timber windows without the accompanying upkeep we have six woodgrain options which include three timeless classics: Cherrywood, Golden Oak and Mahogany; as well as the increasingly popular Irish Oak and the more niche selections, AnTeak and Rustic Cherry.

These finishes successfully equal the colour, texture and shading of traditional timber windows but unlike their wooden counterparts, they do not need staining or repainting.
