5 Ways To Keep Your Home Warm Over Winter

Temperatures outside suggest otherwise, but we’re not even into winter yet, and Britain has already experienced several cold snaps, which doesn’t augur well for when winter officially begins next month.

Who knows how bad the weather might get? It’s always best to prepare for the worst so that rather being left shaking and shivering at home during a frosty spell, all you ever feel is wonderfully warm and toasty.

Here are 5 winter-warming tips you should implement now to ensure your home is well-insulated come wintertime:

  1. Get your boiler serviced

It’s really important that you have your boiler serviced by a qualified gas engineer at least once a year. They will conduct various tests and checks to determine whether your boiler is running as efficiently as possible.

Ideally, it should be done in summer when your boiler is more underused, but you could still have one done now if it hasn’t been done yet as a service will also identify any possible problems. The last thing you want is for it to breakdown when you need it most.

  1. Fit energy efficient windows and doors

You should never be able to feel the weather indoors. If you do, it means that your windows and doors aren’t up to scratch, in terms of them not being able to keep the cold out.

The installation of energy efficient windows and doors will solve that problem. With insulating frames and energy efficient glazing, they will preserve the warmth produced by your boiler and also eliminate draughts. You can also look forward to cheaper energy bills as a result of that.

  1. Make the most of the heat of your oven

Families nowadays tend to congregate in their kitchens, instead of in their living rooms. After cooking those family meals and when practical, leave your oven door open to let the extreme heat circulate around the space so that you can catch-up in comfort.

  1. Hang up some thicker curtains

At this time of year, the days are short and the nights are long, so your curtains will often be drawn shut.

You can buy thermal insulated curtains that are far thicker than your normal set of curtains, made from heavy cotton or polyester, to prevent air from entering or leaving the room.

  1. Add a solid roof to your conservatory

If you love the idea of serving up turkey and all the trimmings to house guests in the conservatory this Christmas, but your old conservatory is like an icebox in winter, a product exists to solve that issue – the solid roof.

Either of our replacement tiled roofing systems will winter-proof the extension and make it useable in all weathers. Fitted in no time, you will be able to make the conservatory a fantastic festive setting.
