A Guide To Buying And Measuring Up Windows And Doors

All this time spent at home may have got you thinking about making changes to your house, such as having your present windows and doors taken out and exchanged for more secure and more attractive replacements.

That’s the sort of job you need to leave to a professional window and door company, and there’s no-one better locally than Visual to see to it for you.

Make no mistake, we are continuing to take window and door orders from customers during lockdown, but unfortunately, what we cannot do at the moment is come and visit to measure up ahead of fitting them.

We hope to be able to do that soon enough, but in the meantime, you can do us a big favour and take some measurements for us.

It really isn’t that difficult and we aren’t expecting exact measurements, just a bit of a rough guide.

Here’s how to measure up and also some advice on getting the right replacement windows and doors:

Windows

  • Settle on a window material – UPVC or aluminium.
  • When measuring the width and height of the window, do it brick-to-brick and record the measurements in either millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • Settle on a window style and colour.
  • If you’re happy with your current window style and want something similar, take a photograph of it for us to have a look at.
  • Do you have a totally new window style in mind? Try and provide us with a photo of the window style you want.

Doors

  • Settle on a door material – UPVC, aluminium or composite.
  • When measuring the width of the door, do it brick-to-brick, and for the width, do it brick-to-floor, both either in metric or imperial units.
  • Let us know if you want your new door to open inwards or outwards.
  • We also need to know if the door is hinged on the left or right too when observed from the outside.
  • Take a picture of the door from the outside for us to have a look at if you want something like-for-like.
