The Christmas TV Highlights Not To Be Missed

In addition to all the eating you’re bound to do over the next few weeks, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without sitting down with the family to watch some festive telly. It’s a great excuse to let the turkey dinner settle in your stomach!

Some will settle down in front of the television inside their living room or kitchen, whilst those fortunate enough to own a conservatory or orangery may well revert to their home extension for what is the most special time of the year.

To aid your TV viewing, we’ve picked out a few of the highlights:

Sports Personality of the Year – 15th December, 7.40pm on BBC One

Last year’s Sports Personality of the Year shortlist had to be specially extended to 12 nominees due to Team GB’s phenomenal success, with Sir Bradley Wiggins taking home the famous trophy. 2013’s award looks to have been already sewn up by Andy Murray after his historic win at Wimbledon, but it is a public vote so it would be foolish to rule out the chances of his nearest rival, Mo Farah.

Doctor Who – 25th December, 7.30pm BBC One

Hot on the heels of its 50th Anniversary episode, Whovians will be glued to their television screens on Christmas Day for the episode entitled ‘The Time of the Doctor’ as it will see the regeneration of current incumbent of the famous old role, Matt Smith, as Peter Capaldi prepares to step into his shoes to become the 14th Doctor.

Downton Abbey – 25th December, 8.30pm ITV

The acclaimed period drama has firmly secured its spot as a staple of the Christmas Day TV schedules over the past few years. It picks up six months from the end of the last series and sees several members of the Crawley family in the midst of summer venture away from the old house down to the beach.

Still Open All Hours – 26th December, 7.45pm on BBC One

2007 saw the return of old comedy favourite ‘To the Manor Born’ and this year it’s the turn of ‘Open All Hours’ or to give it it’s new title ‘Still Open All Hours’. Sir David Jason reprises his role of ‘Granville’ who has inherited the famous old shop from ‘Arkwright’, formerly played by the late, great, Ronnie Barker. It also features guest appearances from Johnny Vegas and one of the Chuckle Brothers!

If you didn’t get around to organising a home extension in time for this Christmas, then why not make plans to do so in the New Year at Permaframe.
