What Composite Doors Are And Their Benefits

A composite door gets its name from the fact that it consists of multiple materials, as opposed to a UPVC or aluminium door, which both only contain one material.

Composite door frames are a mix of a solid timber or high-density foam core, insulating foam, timber, UPVC and a GRP (glass reinforced plastic) skin. Affixed to them is a multipoint locking mechanism.

The combined components create an incredibly resilient and energy efficient design, with impressive weather-resistance. Maintenance of the frame is negligible too.

25-35 years is the possible lifespan of a composite door, but to have the best chance of reaching that age, it needs to be properly installed and constructed, as well as weatherproofing.

Would A Composite Door Suit My House?

Your expectations of a door will mainly decide that.

If you place high importance on security, energy efficiency and low maintenance, composite doors are definitely worth looking into. You’ll have to pay a bit more for one than a UPVC door, but it merits the extra investment.

How is it so tough? That’ll be down to the solid timber or engineered wood core, and its ability to conserve warmth and cut draughts is achieved thanks to an insulating foam or core material. No warping or weathering will inflict the GRP skin either.

Are My Energy Bills Likely To Go Down?

In all probability, yes! Being multi-layered works heavily in its favour in terms of insulation, lowering the amount of heat loss and cold air that forces its way in.

There’s minimal chance of a break-in happening as the multi-point lock engages the door at several points along the door frame.

There will be no diminishing of appearance over time either, with the colour remaining rich and vibrant from year to year.
