A Helpful Guide To Heritage Windows

A Helpful Guide To Heritage Windows

Amongst our many window products at Permaframe are designs that we can justifiably define as being heritage windows. Why’s that?

For a start, they’re built using long-established crafting techniques, and when manufacturing these solutions, we abide by historical guidelines so that they effortlessly marry with a building’s original architecture.

Heritage windows are typically chosen for window replacement projects at late 19th and early 20th century homes with listed status or that fall within conservation areas. Planners are more inclined to approve their installation for these historic residences than most other window systems due to their authentic and sympathetic design.

Traditional styles with modern qualities

Heritage windows are very much in the mould of old timber windows design-wise, made to similar proportions and offering a wood-like finish. However, they easily outdo them in the performance and practicality stakes.

Unlike timber windows, they don’t weaken as they get older and then subject your home to draughts, nor do they require regular upkeep.

UPVC and aluminium profiles are used to construct heritage windows and they can be supplied double or triple glazed, ensuring maintenance-free, well-insulated and extra secure solutions.

Different varieties to choose from

There isn’t one singular form of heritage window, although it has to be said that the flush sash window is one of the best-known heritage options, which when closed, has sashes that sit flush with the external face of the window.

Cottage windows also can be bracketed as heritage, coming with beautifully neat Georgian bars to replicate classic Georgian windows and initiate the same cottage inspired aesthetic.

The Georgian bar detailing added to their window units (it can either be in a vertical or horizontal formation) gives the impression that they have separate panes of glass.

Advancing popularity

Customers seem to have a real affinity with our heritage windows and it’s easy to see why – they are such a believable imitation of flush and cottage windows.

In addition to them being chosen for delicate window upgrades at old country cottages and listed properties, we’re also regularly integrating them into up-to-the-minute homes across Somerset for those wanting a home that evokes vintage appeal.

You never know, someone living near you might just have some!
