Because it’s been a particularly trying year for the majority of us, you will have noticed that many householders are really going to town with their decorations, so you should too.
Get the tree put up so that you can see it in the front window and then add some festive glamour to your windows and doors to show everybody that you’re full of the Christmas spirit.
Add door AND window wreaths
We’re all familiar with the traditional Christmas door wreath, but you might not be aware of the existence of wreaths for windows.
Window wreaths are massive in America at Christmas time, and it’s inevitable that they will eventually become a big trend in Blighty, giving you a chance to be ahead of the game.
The favoured style of window wreath used across the pond is one featuring red bows, a real eye-catching Christmassy look that others will want to emulate.
Fairy lights, lanterns and candles
Make your home a beacon at night with a brilliant, dazzling light display.
Fairy lights can be draped around your windows (battery-powered to save on those energy bills), with lanterns put outside your front door and an advent candle shining brightly in the front window.
Pardon the pun, but these lights shouldn’t be a hole in your pocket, and the light they emit will create a wonderfully cosy ambience.
Dig out your Christmas ornaments
Those Christmas ornaments really build up over the years, don’t they!
Some of the ornaments you have may date back years and have great sentimental value, so dust them off, whether it’s an old snowman or Nativity scene, and put them on your windowsills.
There’s even a festive plant you can place in a vase and add to a windowsill. Poinsettias are a popular Christmas houseplant, thought to be a symbol of the Star of Bethlehem.
