Reaching Dizzy Heights; 57-Storey Skyscraper Built In Nineteen Days

Construction of lofty world landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Shard and One World Trade Center took many years of building as you’d expect of such extraordinarily tall skyscrapers.

Whilst relatively small in comparison, you still wouldn’t expect a skyscraper scaling 57-storeys high to be capable of being built in just nineteen days as has recently happened in China.

The newly constructed Mini Sky City in Changsha covering 180,000 square metres, houses 800 apartments and enough office space for 4,000 people, and was brought to life by 1,200 workers in such a short space of time after being built brick by brick at a rate of three storeys a day.

The eco-friendly building was entirely prefabricated with large sections crafted away from the site and then suitably stacked on top of each other, a bit like Lego, at the designated plot.

It was originally meant to consist of a far taller 220 storeys but the plan was scrapped due to concerns of its close proximity to the local airport.

The firm responsible for its construction, the Chinese Broad Sustainable Building company, have previously created a 30-storey building in just 15 days, a speed record at the time.

Permaframe may not be in the business of building skyscrapers at such pace, but what we are good at doing quickly and efficiently is installing home improvements such as windows, doors and conservatories.
