Why You Shouldn’t Invest In A Modular Extension

It’s no coincidence that ever since the government decided to permanently relax planning laws for single-storey extensions, more and more people are choosing to extend their home.

Grey Bi-Folding Doors on Extension

With less red tape to overcome, it’s much simpler now to add an extension, which should give you food for thought if you have the capacity to extend at home.

In our opinion, you’re best having a conservatory or orangery installed when you want to extend, and best avoiding the temptation of getting a modular extension fitted.

We don’t provide modular extensions at Permaframe, but many extension specialists do.

They are prefabricated structures, extensions predominantly built in a factory, rather than wholly constructed outdoors.

This minimises the hours of labour needed at a person’s house to complete the fitting of an extension.

In general, a modular extension can be installed within a few days, which is a much shorter timespan than building a conservatory or orangery, but time doesn’t prevail over efficiency!

Modular extensions are also considerably cheaper than most forms of extension, but again, this just reflects how imperfect the materials used to build them are.

If you would like to be able to customise your extension, a modular extension isn’t for you! There is hardly any scope to tailor the design and you get it as it comes.

Some choose to extend their property to make it more sellable, and in most cases, it works.

However, because a modular extension is a non-standard construction (not built with bricks and mortar) and securing a mortgage against homes with a non-standard construction can be problematic, it could have the reverse effect.

Accept nothing else but a conservatory or orangery from Permaframe if it’s time to grow your home. A quick look through our Living Spaces gallery will confirm to you that a modular extension isn’t the way to go.
