What Type Of Orangery Best Suits Your Home?

Is your home a victorian build? A modern new build? A 1930’s beauty?

Small Atrium Orangery

Whichever style of home you have, an orangery will definitely suit it, but what kind?

So, what is an orangery?

An orangery was initially brought to us by the Italians! The elegant structure was originally used in the meditation country for growing citrus fruit and many other exotic plants, but they’ve now developed into a living space enjoyed in many countries around the world…especially popular in the UK.

Orangeries commonly found in the UK, tend to include high volume brickwork, lengthy glazed sections, ornate columns and a beautiful lantern roof to allow even more natural light flow into the home.

Although, orangeries now found in the UK contain much less glass than both conservatories and those found in Italy, the added brickwork allows for the feel of a more natural extension of the home, plus the addition of more space, rather than an add on. Orangeries allow you to enjoy the natural light and views of the garden with the comfort of being inside.

But, what style orangery is right for your home?

When choosing what type of orangery to get, the important thing is to decide which style would best suit your home. As orangeries are developed to look like an extension of your home and not an add on, you should take into consideration the brickwork and colour finish to ensure it fits in with and matches your home.

It’s all in the door when it comes to orangeries, for example, french doors can make your orangery appear more traditional, yet adding bi-folding doors to an orangery can immediately modernise it.

Just like with windows and doors, there are a range of materials available to suit all homes. The main three are:

UVPC – the most chosen and affordable of them, UPVC is a material best seen in more modern homes. Therefore, if your home is a periodic home or older than the 1950s then this may not be the best to suit the look and feel of your home.

Aluminium – this material is one of the most flexible and changeable of them all. Aluminium can be moulded and adapted to fit any frame or shape you desire, making it perfect for periodic homes with those non-straight but characteristic lines.

Heritage – for the more traditional home, a wood-framed orangery looks fantastic, yet wood timber frames are the most likely to age and rot, meaning it can be a big risk! However, our maintenance-free Heritage frames are made of UPVC but with the look of real wood, making customers unable to spot the difference.

Orangeries are all down to what it is you want and personal preference. Picking the perfect one for your home can be difficult, so why not visit our showroom to see our wide range of orangeries available?
